Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs)

FAQ'S On Lasting Powers of Attorney

Why do I need a Power of Attorney?

A Power of Attorney enables you to nominate an individual(s) to make decisions for you when you are unable to make decisions for yourself. There are two types of Lasting Power of Attorneys, these are for Property and Financial Affairs and Health and Welfare. These LPAs differ as once a Property and Financial Affairs LPA has been registered, it can be used by the Attorney to help you even if you have capacity. For example, the Attorney could use it to help you deal with your bank or sell your property. However, a Health and Welfare LPA cannot be used unless you have lost capacity.

What is the role of an Attorney?

The role of an Attorney is to act in your best interests and make financial and/or health decisions when you need them to or are unable to make such decisions for yourself/

How much does it cost to get a power of attorney?

At Watson Thomas, we offer fixed fees for the preparation and registration of our LPA’s. The starting price for an LPA is £350 plus VAT. There is also a Court registration fee of £82 per person per LPA. The court fee is means tested so could be reduced or waived.
